I have tried to manually add google analytics code to the child deader, adding it via google pluging and adding it via the theme admin panel and each time it resulted in the theme not loading on the front side.

I tried adding it in the additional scripts module but dont know what this message means since google anlaytics has two js scrips that start with the <script> tags

Enter custom JavaScript code such as Google Analytics code here. Please note that you should not include <script> tags in your scripts.

Yes, Do not need to add script tag to custom Scripts.
Just need to add the code between script tags
